Cold email marketing is an effective and extremely powerful sales tool once you accept that it’s a trial and error process. So for those of you who are afraid of dipping your toes into cold emailing because you’re worried about not getting responses — you’re missing out real big.
Don’t get me wrong, creating a cold email campaign can be challenging. Especially if you don’t know the tricks. But today I’m going to show you how to build your cold email list easily, and effectively.
Before you start, a few things to keep in mind
#1 Target the right people
There are various ways you can build your email list. But before you try anything out, the first step you need to take is to figure out who is your ideal customer? What are their pain points? How can you and your business help solve their problems?
If there’s one thing you want to avoid in cold emailing, it’s using a random email list and sending the same email to everyone. Trust me, it won’t amount to anything, because the emails will most likely be inactive or not in your target market.
#2 Collect as much data as you can
The more data you collect, the more personalized your email will be — and that is the key to a successful cold email campaign. Aside from collecting names, email addresses, and company names, you can also find out their job position, location, and interests.
When writing your cold email, you can strategically incorporate these details into your cold email. It will not only win your prospect’s attention, but it will also increase the chances of them replying and finally doing business with you.
#3 Minimize your bounce rate
Before you send out any emails, be sure to verify your email addresses. Sending emails to inactive email addresses will increase your bounce rate. If this happens, your domain reputation will be damaged and as a result, your account might get blocked or banned.
Here’s what you should do instead.
3 smart hacks for building your email list
#1 Use chrome extensions or plugins
With the help of tools like ContactOut, Skrapp, or ColdCRM, you can easily retrieve anyone’s email address (or even other details) by visiting their LinkedIn or other social media profiles. All you have to do is type in a job position or industry you’re targeting on LinkedIn, click on the person’s profile, and the plugins will do the work for you!
All of these extensions have a free and premium plan, so you can choose whichever plan suits your needs.
#2 Check email validity
In order to minimize your bounce rate, be sure to check every email address on your list. You can either do this manually, by typing in the email address on your Gmail and hover your pointer to see whether is a valid email. Or you can also use tools like MailShake’s email list cleaner to verify the email addresses on your list.
#3 Managing your email list
A clean and well-organized CSV email list is also crucial in ensuring that your cold email campaign will run smoothly. Here are a few things you need to do:
- Label your column headers clearly
- First and last names should be separated into different columns
- The company name should not contain any legal info like “LTD” and so on
