Working in a remote copywriting agency is an amazing way to let your creativity loose whilst having the freedom to set your own hours.
However, there are times when working remotely can feel rather isolating and lonely.
Furthermore, this might lead to burnout, where workers feel a constant pressure to work extended hours, as they are not confined to work at a set time.
To prevent this from happening, we’ve interviewed our copywriters at The Blank Pad for their input as to how they prevent burnout!
Avin (Founder)
Puzzles are a fantastic way to de-stress. Avin, the founder of The Blank Pad, fondly recalls the time where he once spent 14 hours puzzling over puzzles!
According to London-based trauma therapist Olivia James, puzzles are satisfying as you enter a state of focus where your mind is occupied, but not excessively challenged.
Michael Vilensky, a psychologist at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, stated that puzzles are alluring as a way to self-soothe as puzzles offer an experience like no other—“With a puzzle, we can control the outcome, know it will end, and experience a sense of relief and accomplishment when it’s finished.”
Grace (Co-Founder & COO)
Meditation, according to the Mayo Clinic, is a simple and fast way to reduce stress. Our co-founder and COO Grace states that she uses meditation as a means to de-stress. Furthermore, meditation is a simple practice to get into—anyone can practice meditation, and it doesn’t require any special equipment.
Grace also recommends re-organizing, which has surprising benefits—if you free yourself from physical clutter, you are also simultaneously “decluttering” your mind as well, thus leading to a reduction of stress. In addition to this, her other choices of ways to de-stress are engaging in repetitive activities like crocheting and coloring. These are great ways to de-stress as they’re able to induce a meditative state within their practitioners; similar to completing a puzzle.
Dessy (Head Copywriter)
Similar to meditation, yoga simply requires a clear mind and a yoga mat. Our head copywriter Dessy happens to enjoy yoga and walking meditations.
Yoga has both mental and physical benefits for our body. According to the National Institutes of Health, there has been scientific evidence that yoga supports stress management, mindfulness, healthy eating, and improved quality of sleep.
Walking meditations are also a fun alternative to yoga, and can be used as part of an overall mindfulness practice. Originally rooted in Buddhism, it gives its practitioners an opportunity to practice gratitude while reflecting upon the ways in which the earth sustains us.
Elvy (Copywriter)
Elvy’s methods of relaxation are sleeping and getting some fresh air. We all know that a good night’s sleep is hugely beneficial for the day ahead, but are we truly aware of its positive effects?
When you’re not well-rested, you may feel sluggish and notice that you have trouble holding onto and recalling details. Prepare for the day ahead by ensuring that you have a good night’s rest.
Getting some fresh air is also an essential way to de-stress and achieve mindfulness. Living in a cosmopolitan city obviously has its benefits, but it also has its downsides, such as being surrounded by pollution. Searching for greenery by going to parks, or even out of town, can really help with one’s mental health. By doing so, you’re able to recenter your mind through focusing and recharging your energy through healthy amounts of outdoor isolation.
Sean (Copywriter)
Our resident soccer enthusiast Sean recommends exercise as a way for him to de-stress. Exercise can improve your brain health, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, as well as allow yourself to better focus on your daily activities. Regular exercise can immediately reduce short-term feelings of anxiety for adults, while keeping your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp as you age.
Fun fact: All of our copywriters stated that snacking is also a great way for them to de-stress! Once you’re done with the above activities, you can return home and enjoy a cup of hot tea with a delicious dessert. This can really help you self-soothe and de-stress after a long day.
Have you ever tried any of these methods, and if so, which ones worked for you?
